Ada Yeh, VP HR (retired) from Warner Brothers
Jan 03, 2023Today I had the opportunity to interview Ada Yeh and learn about her career in HR and Entertainment. She worked at Warner Brothers’ television group (think shows like Friends!) and how she helped coach creative types like writers, showrunners and directors to better lead their teams. "Welcome to the real world"!
She loved working with the production side because she loved the employee interaction and helping them.
I wonder if she ever had to answer this question?
Because she was on the entertainment and animation side of the business, she had to translate "corporate speak" to what the creatives would understand. She was like a mediator and she simplified corporate requirements so the production team could remain agile and be able to meet their tight weekly timelines for show each week.
Ada shared with me the characteristics of the employees they liked to hire at Warner Brothers. Some of these characteristics included being forward thinking, making their bosses job easier, asking good questions, and being "coachable".
Ada talks about an amazing boss she worked with for 25 years and it makes me realize how important it is to have a boss who will mentor you and also challenge you while allowing creativity.
Make sure you watch to the end for the advice she gives to her younger self!
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.
Elli
P.S. Ada has agreed to do another VLOG interview with me about just the entertainment side of the business and all the roles and skills needed. If you all will submit your questions to me ahead of time, I would be happy to ask her some of your questions! Submit your questions here: https://www.eleanorlu.com/Library
